1) All LVSC hardwood shutters are made from FURNITURE GRADE POPLAR

2) LVSC makes thicker panels (1 1/8") wider stiles (2 1/4") wider frames (1 1/4") deeper frames (1 15/16") deeper light stops (3/8") thicker fan blades (3/4")

3) The larger cross section components made from stronger materials allows LVSC to create more wide open shutter designs. LVSC can span 3 foot windows with single louver sets and 10 foot windows with just 3 panels. 6 foot patio doors can have just 2 louver sets.

4) Louvers can be 2 ½, 3 ½, 4 ½, or 5 ½ inches wide. The price is the same for 2 ½, 3 ½, and 4 ½. There is an up charge for 5 ½" louvers. 3 ½, 4 ½, and 5 ½" are referred to as plantation shutters.

5) Shutters can be mounted with their frames on the wall alongside the window (face mount) or with their frames inside the window opening (inside mounts). There are several frame styles for face mounts. Sometimes multiple windows can share a common frame with face mounts. All inside mounts come with moldings to hide the joints between the shutter frame and the window opening. There are many types of moldings. Some windows are not deep enough for wide louver blades. Inside mounted 3½ louvers require a minimum of 2 1/8" depth. 4½" louvers require 2 5/8" minimum depth .

SURFACE TEXTURES - Shutters can be smooth surfaced or the grain of the wood can be enhanced by sand blasting. If you choose to see and feel the texture of the wood grain, poplar construction gives another advantage. Being a slower growing, much harder wood than basswood. It has more refined and elegant grain structure. Enhancing more refined grain creates more refined shutters.

The enhanced wood grain has three advantages:
1) the shadows created in backlit shutters by enhancing the wood grain reduces glare and creates gentle, comforting lighting. Your shutters become elegant light sculptures.
There is no additional cost for enhanced wood grain surfacing.
2) Dust, dirt, and finger marks hide in the enhanced wood grain surface.
3) If kids or pets damage the shutters, enhanced wood grains are easier to restore. There is no cost difference.

FINISH: PAINTS AND STAINS - Custom blended paint is standard on LVSC products. We will match your existing wall or trim color. Shutters should not add an additional color to your color scheme. Semi-gloss acrylic lacquer is normally used. Light color paints are warranted forever. Higher gloss is available. LVSC can match stains. There is a $3.00/ft. up-charge for stains. Stains and dark paints are not as durable as more reflective light paints. These finishes are exceptions to LVSC's lifetime warranty. Unstained natural poplar can be clear coated at the same cost as painting. They will make your house darker. Stains and dark paints are only covered by 2 year warranties on the finish. The natural poplar can be just clear coated. This costs the same as paint and is a very dramatic look.

HARDWARE - Hinges and hardware can be polished or antique brass, nickel, oiled brone or powder-coated white. Custom powder coating to match specialty hardware can be arranged. Specialty hardware is used as needed. For example, concealed bullet catches in room divider, pass thru type shutters eliminate unsightly catches or magnets from both sides. Cross bar latches can maintain panel alignment when shutters are built without bottom frames over kitchen counters or bathroom tiles.
